Website content audit service

Just like your car needs its MOT and your house needs a spring clean, your website needs a little TLC every now and then.

My content audit service is a detailed review of the words and structure on your site, with one main aim: to help your content support the growth you've been hoping for.

Let's find out what your website content can really do

Where to focus your time, effort, and budget is one of those age-old questions for any website owner.

Because the decisions you make have a ripple effect through your business; impacting everything from conversions and sales to brand identity and reputation.

You don’t want to waste weeks swapping around layouts when it was the unclear wording of the headline that was the issue, or invest in an expensive app to suggest product pairings, when you’ve missed important information from the description that’s turning customers away regardless.

The problem is that our brains often see what we want them to see. So stepping out of your bubble and seeing your site from a different point of view can be tricky to get right.

As Roald Dahl says in Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator,"You’ll never get anywhere if you go about what-iffing like that.’

It's time to take some action.

How do you know it's time for a fresh look?

You feel like you waste a lot of time

Calls with those who have got the wrong end of the stick with what you offer. Answering the same questions over and over. Traffic that doesn't convert.

You want to have a website that shows exactly what's what, simple as that.

You keep chopping and changing your content

All to fit in with the latest advice you see online. It’s getting harder and harder to keep up, and everything feels like it’s getting in a bit of a pickle.

You want a clean slate and customised advice for your website, and your website only.

You want to do better than you've been doing

You aren’t willing to rest on your laurels and hope that people will appreciate your good intentions. You know your customers deserve more.

You want to know your web content represents you to the best of your ability.

A thorough content audit reveals so much good stuff

  1. What your site is communicating right now

  2. Where the meaning gets muddled or contradicts itself

  3. How your voice comes across to a real human reader

  4. Where your words support your business goals, and where they pull focus

Overall, you get an objective perspective on your web content, complete with the editorial insights you need to make changes that support your business.

So, what gets the spotlight in your web content audit?

When I audit your content, I take a careful and considered approach.

But don’t worry, it’s not all doom and gloom; telling you only what’s wrong! I also share my thoughts on what’s really hitting home. Because then you know to zone in more on that style and tone of content, as it’s doing what you hoped it would.

At the end of our work together, you'll walk away with all the know-how on things such as:

Consistency with brand voice, tone, and infliction

Are you coming across as a Chatty Cathy one minute, then a Debbie Downer the next? Are there any moments where your brand voice slips or becomes jarring?

Basic on-page SEO content analysis

Do you have a coherent, sequential header structure? Are the pages currently ranking for any keywords?

Basic proofreading elements

Checking for any typos, spelling errors, grammar, and formatting issues

Structure and layout of your content

Are you positioning your content in the best way to get your message across? Is it logical and guides your reader naturally? Any repetition or redundancy?

Content gaps + conflicting information

What’s missing that could make your message stronger? Anything your competitors are doing that you could do better?

General messaging + branding

Are you telling stories only your business could tell? Developing the brand identity you want to?

Your audit is presented to you in a clear document report, with all my advice and suggestions detailed out to help you put together a plan of action.

Easy as that.

How we'll work together on your content audit

Step 1: Say hello

Shoot me a message, and we'll get a date in the diary to have a quick call to confirm what you’re looking for with your audit.

Step 2: We chat + plan

Our call is a great chance to talk through what you want from the audit and what's been niggling at you about your website. You can ask me anything, and I'll ask you questions about your business so I understand what you're trying to achieve.

We'll sort out the practical details too: timing, pricing, and which five pages you'd like audited.

Step 3: We dot the is and cross the ts

After we've chatted, I'll send over a proposal document with everything confirmed, plus a simple brand questionnaire for you to fill out.

You'll pay a small deposit to secure your spot, and then we're ready to roll.

Step 4: I get auditing

This is where I'm in my element: at my desk with a brew, my classical musical playlist on, going through your site with expert eyes.

Meanwhile, you’re doing what you do best, knowing that you’ll soon have your audit appearing in your inbox.

Step 5: All yours to crack on with

Your full audit document arrives, packed with observations, recommendations, and clear next steps.

If you'd like to talk through the findings or ask questions, you can book an optional, complementary 30-minute follow-up call. Some people love having that chat, others prefer to dive straight in and get going - it’s completely up to you!

So, how much will your content audit cost?

My standard website content audit service package is NZ$850 for 5 pages.

Examples of pages you could choose to be audited are: Home, About, Services (or similar), FAQ, and Contact.

The package can be ramped up if you have more pages on your list, or it can also be reduced if you only have one or two pages you'd like looked at.

Please note that online shops will be quoted differently, as it will largely depend on how many products and collections you'd like included.

FAQ about getting a website content audit

What websites can benefit from this content audit service?

Any website, really! The purpose of a content audit is to show you what your site is communicating right now and whether that matches what you want it to say.

Whether you're selling something, offering a service, sharing information, or building a brand, an audit gives you clarity on what's working and what needs refining. You'll see your content through fresh eyes and know exactly where to focus your efforts to make it stronger.

Does this audit include SEO and AEO elements?

Absolutely, I look at basic on-page SEO as part of every audit. The good news is that most of what helps with traditional SEO also helps with AEO and GEO, so you're covering multiple bases at once.

That means checking your headers, keyword usage, and content structure. These are the things that help search engines and AI tools figure out what your pages are about and when to show them.

Please note that I keep it focused solely on the content side rather than technical elements like site speed or coding.

Do you audit every single page on my website?

It really depends on the size of your site.

If you have a handful of core pages, then yes, I can look at everything. But if you're running a large online shop with hundreds of products and collections, going through every page wouldn't be feasible or helpful. By the time I finished, you'd be ready to launch your next collection! For larger sites, I focus on your main pages and do spot checks to identify common issues.

My standard audit covers 5 pages, which works well for most websites. We'll decide together which pages would be most useful to review based on your priorities.

What kind of problems do you typically find in content audits?

Inconsistency is a big one, even on smaller sites. Your tone might shift from page to page, or your messaging might contradict itself. When you're deep in your business, it's hard to spot these things.

Missing information comes up a lot too. Your brain fills in gaps automatically because you have all the context from working in your business every day. Someone like me, coming to it fresh, will notice when crucial information is missing because I can't connect the dots the way you can.

Sometimes it's simple things. Typos that have been there for ages. A call to action that's buried. A headline that doesn't match the content below it. Think of it like realising your shirt's been inside out all day and nobody told you! The audit is me telling you, kindly, so you can fix it.
